Daniel Moen Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 30, 2026.
"Daniel Joseph Moen was born on April 10, 1960, in Kirkland, Washington, to Edwin and Karen (Kennard) Moen. In 1974, he moved with his family from Redmond to Yakima, Washington, where he spent much of his formative and later years.

Dan graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1978 and went on to attend Yakima Valley Community College, where he earned a degree in Nursing and became a registered nurse.

Alongside his nursing career, Dan was deeply involved in the horse show community for many years. He participated in both 4-H and Open Horse shows through Washington State Horsemen. In 1981, he became a licensed judge and was highly respected and in great demand for judging both 4-H and open shows across the state.

Dan was married to his high school sweetheart, Joni Day, during his early adulthood. In the late 1980s, he returned to Western Washington, living in the Tacoma area before relocating to Kentucky in the early 2000s. While there, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Substance Abuse Counseling from the University of Kentucky.

In 2017, Dan returned to Yakima and in 2020, he married Randy (Hein) Moen, with whom he shared a loving partnership.

He is survived by his spouse, Randy; his sister and brother, Kimber Lee and Eric Moen; numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and countless friends who were touched by his kindness, humor, and generosity. He is also survived by his beloved companion dog, Neeka."
