JACKSONVILLE - We remember Clemmie Carlyle Davis White with love and gratitude. Born on June 10,1935, in Lenoir County as the youngest of eleven siblings. Clemmie's journey was filled with hard work, kindness, and faith. She grew up helping on the family farm and graduated from LaGrange High School in 1953. With just $20 in her pocket and a desire to escape farm life, she bravely pursued nursing at Wilson School of Nursing, attending classes by day and working nights until she earned her RN. Clemmie spent over 40 years caring for mothers and babies at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Wilson and Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, forming lifelong friendships along the way.
Clemmie loved being outdoors, tending to her vegetable garden and beautiful azaleas. Even when mobility slowed her down, she found ways to lift others' spirits-sending cards and prayers to anyone facing tough times. She was an avid reader, especially of the Bible, which she read more than 25 times, always discovering something new to share. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she cherished her time at Sunday School with her friends at First Baptist Church in Richlands. Family meant everything to Clemmie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross White; her parents, Levi and Effie Carlyle, and her siblings.
She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Davis (Rose Marie) of Richlands and Steve Davis (Dana) of Wilmington; grandchildren, Makenzie Sheehan (Ryan) of Martinsville, VA, Jake Davis (Camila) of Raleigh, Matt Davis and John Hill of Wilmington; great-granddaughter Eliza of Martinsville, VA; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Special thanks go to Sommer Williams, Nicole Pearson, Heather Willaford, and Asia Salih, who all cared for Clemmie with extraordinary kindness, and to the staff at Kempton of Jacksonville for making her last days comfortable and enjoyable. Clemmie's furry friend, a beloved Yorkshire terrier, Tibble, who will miss her dearly because they brought joy to each other.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 7,2026 at Richlands First Baptist Church, 100 Rand St,
Richlands, NC, with Rev. Mike Johnson officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family has requested a private burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be made to the church; a tribute she would truly appreciate!
