Peter Hendrickson Obituary

Hudson - Peter D. Hendrickson, 77, of Hudson died December 18, 2025 after a fall.

Peter was born in Ancon, Panama. He was raised in the Canal Zone as a "Canal Company Brat." His father was lockmaster at Mira Flores which allowed Peter to live a blissful childhood full of adventures in the sun - amidst trees full of mangoes and gineps, along with monkeys and coatimundis. He grew up playing on sandy beaches, swimming and fishing in the Pacific Ocean, playing football, cayuca racing, and jungle exploring. Joyful and lasting friendships played a significant role in school and Senior Scouts where he received the honor of nomination to the Order of the Arrow.

After graduating from Balboa High School in 1966, he attended Canal Zone College and took an electrical apprenticeship. When time allowed, he raced his Norton motorcycle competitively. Then, in 1969, he joined the Navy Seabees. He met his wife, Lida Sprague of Hudson, in the New Orleans airport en route to training in nearby Gulfport. They married in 1971 at Christ Church Episcopal in Hudson, Peter choosing American citizenship soon after. Peter and Lida made their home and life in Hudson for all their years together. Panama remained his first home, though, with "Peter Panama" visiting his old stomping grounds and seeing dear friends there most recently in 2023, accompanied by grandson Billy.

Peter was gifted in photography, fine wood working, fixing things no one else could, sailing, and yarn-spinning. He devoted 22 years to Hudson EMS as a volunteer EMT because he believed helping other people is why we are put on earth.

He was a proud IBEW electrician for decades, working locally, as well as in Alaska, allowing him to have outdoor adventures with the family - from Denali exploration to boating and fishing in the Bay of Alaska. However, his most important roles were of beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle - wherever those relationships took him (adventures with the Alaska contingents, a cross-country road trip with Bianca, a COVID-inspired Yellowstone stay with Billy, West Coast and Caribbean travel with Lida, and on and on).

Peter was predeceased by parents Oliver and Solveig Hendrickson and siblings Gerald and Patricia.

Peter leaves stunned and bereft, his wife of 55 years, Lida ("Lili"), his daughter Liz ("Shasta") Hendrickson Carroll, grandchildren Bianca Olivera (Cooper) and William ("Billy") Carroll, all of Hudson. He leaves son Christian Hendrickson (Diane) and grandchildren Lily and Christian ("CC"), all of Wasilla, Alaska, as well as nephew Webb (Chrisanne) Sprague and niece Caroline (Doug) Torres.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Episcopal, 20 Aurora Street in Hudson on Saturday, April 18, at 11 AM.

Gifts in Peter's name to either Haven of Rest or The Salvation Army would greatly honor the memory of our beloved husband, father, grandfather ("Bapa"), and uncle ("The Cool Uncle").
