Dona Anderson Obituary

Dona Lee Anderson was born in Everett, WA in 1928 to parents Homer and Vera Huffman. She graduated from Everett High in 1946. During her high school years she helped at her parent's restaurant, the popular Belgium Café. She went on to study at the University of Washington receiving her BA in English and where she met Robert Anderson. After graduating from the University of Washington in 1950, Dona and Bob married and moved back to Everett and raised four children, Dave, Carol, Doug and Dick during the 1950s. In 1960, Dona returned to school to study art at Everett Community College, where she studied under noted Northwest artists Russell Day, R. Allen Jensen, and Keith Imus. She went on to establish a successful artistic career, becoming a nationally noted fiber artist. She produced imaginative and compelling art using found materials that she fashioned according to her own design; she was especially proud to be a Lifetime Member of Northwest Designer Craftartists. Dona traveled the world extensively, literally every continent but Antarctica, always finding the fascinating remote museum or cultural site at every destination. Dona was a supportive wife to Robert Anderson who was mayor of Everett from 1969-1979. Dona was always known for her candor, humor and great artistic imagination. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Everett, WA. In later years, she and her husband contributed to the establishment of the Schack Arts Center in Everett, WA.

Dona was preceded in death by her parents and husband Bob Anderson. She is survived by her four children, Dave (Nita), Carol Kafer, Doug (Tessie), Dick (Teresa), and Bob's brother Richard T. Anderson (Margie). She will be missed by grandchildren Micah Hutt, Mara Wollen (Ryan), Arielle Mayer, Karley Kafer, Taylor Anderson Thomas, as well as several great-grandchildren. Dona will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful for the services of Cogir Senior Living Center of Queen Anne and Kline-Galland Hospice. In remembrance of Dona, kindly consider a donation to the Schack Art Center in Everett, WA.

A Celebration Of Life service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 1616 Pacific Ave in Everett March 7th 2:00pm with a reception to follow.
