Clare Cory Obituary

Clare Marie Cory 2-April, 1965 to 2-March, 2026. Phoenix, AZ.

Clare was born in Detroit, Michigan to Phyllis and Kenneth Cory. Clare spent much of her youth in Dillon, MT, graduating from Beaverhead County High School in 1983.

Clare earned a BA from the University of Michigan and a PhD in clinical psychology from California School of Professional Psychology. Clare served the Pascua Yaqui Tribe for 29 years as a clinical psychologist and as the Associate Director of the Centered Spirit Program.

Clare lived with inflammatory breast cancer for nearly nine years. She lived with cancer the way she lived all of her life: by making friends, creating community, and helping others.

Clare's journey with cancer did not detract from her joy for life and love for her family, home (Dillon MT), or from her commitment to serving the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. She was a passionate practitioner and advocate for culturally grounded care. She lived to serve the people of Guadalupe whom she deeply loved and admired for their commitment to tradition, culture, and unity.

Clare is survived by her husband Don Coyhis, her 5 sisters (Aysha Turtle, Cathy Zeng, Anne-Marie Chmielewski, Rose Cory, Celeste Johanson), brother (David Cory), her mother and father (Phyllis and Ken Cory), and 17 nieces and nephews.

Donations to Clare's preferred charities are greatly appreciated: Inflammatory Breast Cancer foundation https://theibcnetwork.org/ or to Flight33 https://www.flight33.com/.
