Carol Syverson Obituary

Carol (Mrs. Philip) Syverson, 81, of Urbandale, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, December 14, 2012 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa after a courageous battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church, 4300 Beaver Avenue, Des Moines, with Pastor Tina Rasmussen officiating. A private family committal service will be held at a later date at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to services.
Born Carol Jeanette Berg on April 29, 1931, in Willmar, Minnesota, she was the youngest of four daughters born to Martin and Anna (Martinson) Berg. She graduated from Willmar High School's Class of 1949.
On June 24, 1955, she was united in marriage to Philip H. Syverson at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar, Minnesota. They made their home in Willmar before moving to Ankeny, Iowa in 1969. Carol worked for the Twin City Optical before becoming a homemaker and mother to her four children. She treasured her husband, children and grandchildren.
In 1982, they moved to Somerset, New Jersey where they made many life-long friends at Bunker Hill Church and on the East Coast and did much traveling while living out east. In 1988 they returned to Iowa and settled in Urbandale. Carol was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. In her earlier years Carol taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, was active in the women's circle at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny, and bowled for many years. She treasured and loved her friends in her Friday quilting group at Zion Lutheran Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 57 years, Phil; four children and ten grandchildren, Steven (Deb) Syverson, Jordan and Rachael, of Polk City, Iowa; Pat (Mark) Carley, John, Pete and Anna, of Clive, Iowa; Paul (Pam) Syverson, Erika, Bradley and Emily, of Ankeny, Iowa; and Ann (Matt) Lenaghan, Devyn and Shalyn (Joseph) Donofro, of Urbandale, Iowa, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In death, Carol rejoined her parents and sisters, Opal, Ethyl and Marvel.
