Charles Swoboda Obituary

DEFIANCE - Charles Donald Swoboda, age 78 of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at The Meadows of Kalida.

He was born in Kenton, Ohio on October 4, 1947, to Frank and Jean (Robinson) Swoboda. Don proudly served in the U.S. Navy. On February 11, 2003, he married Carol Booher who survives.

Don was a member of North Mount Zion Church in Continental, Ohio, and AmVets #1991. He worked for 20 years at UPS and for several years at Johns Manville until his retirement. He also drove for the Veterans Office in Defiance for four years. He absolutely loved his grandchildren and attending their sporting events to show his support. Don could fix anything and was a great handyman. He also enjoyed gardening and hunting. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Don is survived by his loving wife Carol Swoboda of Defiance, three sons, Jeff Swoboda of Mary Esther, FL, Bradley (Stacey) Swoboda and Matthew (Bryce) Swoboda, all of Stevensville, MD, and his stepchildren, Charlotte Simons of Findlay, OH, Bret (Shayna) Booher of Defiance, and Kevin Booher of Lima, OH. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, one great-step-grandson, and his Aunt, JoAnn Schmidt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Swoboda and Jean Wertz.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Brent Gibson officiating. Don will be laid to rest in North Mount Zion Cemetery.
