William Rapchak Obituary

WILLIAM 'BILL ' M. RAPCHAK William "Bill" M. Rapchak, age 87, a resident of Naperville since 1969, formerly of Whiting, Indiana, died Friday, July 26, 2013. He was born July 6, 1926 in Hammond, Indiana. Beloved husband of Barbara (nee Johnson) Rapchak, and the late Geraldine (nee Vuksanovic) Rapchak, loving father of Terry (the late Bruce) Fawell of Wheaton, Barbara Rapchak of Crystal Lake, Patty (John) Folan of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jonathan Rapchak of Chicago, and Alyssa Rapchak of Aspen, Colorado, adored grandfather of Alex Fawell and the late Lisa Fawell; Sean and Dylan Folan, devoted son of the late George and Mary Hrapcak. Bill grew up in Whiting, Indiana and graduated from George Rogers Clark High School, where he excelled at basketball. He attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, where he starred on the basketball team. His four year collegiate career was interrupted by service with the U.S. Army in World War II. He left Michigan State as the all-time leading scorer with 691 points, a record which stood until 1951. Bill worked as a salesman with Oscar Mayer & Company for 43 years. He was a charter member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Naperville, and was honored in 2003 with induction to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. Bill will be remembered as a devoted husband and father. Memorial Visitation Sunday, July 28, 2013, 2:00-5:00 P.M. at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St, Naperville. Family and friends will meet Monday, July 29th at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1500 Brookdale Rd., Naperville to celebrate a 10:00 A.M. Memorial Mass with Rev. Don McLaughlin officiating. A luncheon reception will follow at church. Interment: Private.
