William A. McFarland

William A. McFarland, 78, of Elmhurst, IL passed away at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital on December 4, 2015. He was born and raised in Darlington, WI.

He is survived by partner and friend of 45 years, David Miranda; sisters, Shirley Nethery, Ruth Ellen (Owen) Thompson and Jean (Edgar) Temby; nieces and nephews, Thomas Nethery, Jack Nethery, Jo Anne Shosie, Ronald Nethery, James Nethery, Donna Douglas, Kay Steidinger, Timothy Temby and Todd Temby; and many great and great great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Bernice McFarland; and brother-in-law Tim Nethery.

Bill graduated from Darlington High School in 1955 and Pioneer College in 1959 where he was also editor of the Platteville Exponent while in college. He began his teaching career in Rockford, IL and then Atwater, CA. He moved back to the Chicago area where he did social work for Cook County prior to becoming a supervisor in the Department of Public Aid for the State of Illinois, retiring in 1999. He was an active and longtime member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ where he faithfully served as a choir member and lay leader.

Memorial Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2015, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 125 W. Church St., Elmhurst. Private interment at Union Grove Cemetery, Darlington, WI.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials will be appreciated for St. Peter's United Church of Christ Music Ministry, 125 W. Church St., Elmhurst, IL 60126. Arrangements by Ahlgrim Funeral Home.
