Wayne Stevenson Obituary

Wayne C. Stevenson, age 83, a resident of Glen Ellyn for 53 years (since 1957), passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at his residence. Wayne was a retired teacher, coach and administrator with Glen Ellyn School District 87 where he worked since 1957. He served in the Navy during WWII from June 24, 1944 to June 19, 1946, being honorably discharged as Yeoman Third Class. Mr. Stevenson had a Masters Degree in education; and was a member of the Illinois Valley Old-timers Baseball Hall of Fame and a Rotarian. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia Manigold Stevenson who preceded him April 4, 2004. Surviving are his loving children, Scott Wayne (Meg) Stevenson of St. Paul, MN and children Andrew, Paige and Tyler; James "Sandy" Milton (Joan) Stevenson of Highland Park, IL and children Ashley, Alexis and Aynsley; Roberta S. "Robbi" Stevenson (Chuck) Woolard, of Coto De Caza, CA and children Charles Joseph "C.J." and Nicholas and great-grandchild Isabella Grace Woolard; Todd Owen (Jane) Stevenson of Boynton Beach, FL and children Christopher, Sean and Justin; Paul Mullin (Barbara) Stevenson of Winfield, IL and daughter Emma and Elizabeth Ruth Stevenson of South Elgin. He was the dear brother of Robert, Marilyn, Phyllis, Betty and Richard and the late Arnold Theodore and Mildred. Visitation will be Thursday, January 28, 2010 from 4-8pm at the Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane Street, Glen Ellyn. Funeral Service Friday, 10am at the First United Methodist Church of Glen Ellyn with the Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Potenza officiating. Interment Private in Ottawa Avenue Cemetery, Ottawa, IL. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers to the First United Methodist Churh, 424 Forest Ave., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 in honor of the Wayne C. Stevenson Scholarship Fund would be appreciated. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Stevenson family - lots of great memories! Mom and Dad - Anne & Bill Rider - were friends with Wayne & Pat from teaching at Glenbard High School - and Dad & Wayne worked together at Glenbard East. Our sympathies.
