Valerie M. Swailes, age 98, a resident of Sunrise of Naperville and a former longtime resident of Downers Grove, IL, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2021. She was born on December 2, 1922 in Chicago, IL.
Valerieis survived by her loving daughters, Deborah (Edward) Caldwell of Martinsville, NJ and Diane (Peter) Herbert of Naperville, IL; her cherished grandchildren, Christopher Caldwell, Patrick Caldwell, Dana (Dan) Watts and Peter Herbert; her adored great-grandchildren, Logan and Brayden Watts; her dear sister, Shirley (Robert) Smith.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy Swailes; her parents, Benjamin and Mary Matuzas; and her brother, Willie Matuzas.
Valerie grew up in Downers Grove. She married the love of her life, Roy Swailes, in 1945 after he was discharged from the USMC after WWII. They settled in Downers Grove and were longtime members of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Downers Grove.Throughout her life Valerie loved being outdoors and surrounded herself in the beauty of God's creations. She also enjoyed golfing with her husband and friends. Valerie will be best remembered as a truly loving wife, mom, grandma and GG and will be forever loved by her family.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, June 24, 9:30 AM at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville. Inurnment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL.Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Naperville was entrusted with arrangements.
