Theodore Sodergren Obituary

Theodore L. Sodergren

Born: August 28, 1942

Died: February 12, 2018

Theodore Leonard Sodergren, 75, passed away on the morning of February 12, 2018. Theodore and his family lived in Glen Ellyn, IL for more than thirty years before he and his wife retired to Double Oak, Texas four years ago.

Ted, as he was known, was born to Gustav and Alice (Hothan) Sodergren on August 28, 1942, in Chicago Heights, Illinois. He grew up in nearby Crete, Illinois, attending Crete-Monee High School. Ted went to the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, graduating with an M.S. in Communications in 1966. He married Elizabeth (Baldwin) Sodergren on February 5, 1966.

Ted was a 28-year veteran of the United States Air Force, serving with distinction in the 1st Combat Camera Squadron and retiring in 1995 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During his military service, Ted was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Air Force Achievement Medal, among others. After active duty in the Air Force, Ted joined Northwest Teleproductions in Chicago. In later years, Ted enjoyed racing his Formula Vee sports car with the Vintage Sports Car Drivers Association at race tracks across Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin.

Theodore is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Sodergren; his two sons, Kenneth Gustave Sodergren and Steven Earl Sodergren; and his seven-year-old grandson, Michael Theodore Sodergren.

A military service was February 19, 2018, at 9:15a.m., at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Chuck and I are saddened to hear Ted passed away. We cannot express how very sorry we are for your loss and how much we appreciated the help and friendship your whole family bestowed upon Chris as he was growing up. Chris always looked up to Ted as a role model and Ted was a great influence in helping Chris stay focused on achieving a career in the USN. I will always remember the day Chris received his officer's commission at U of I Urbana and Ted pinned on his stripes at my request as a way of thanking Ted for the guidance and support he gave Chris throughout his youth. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. May his memory be eternal.

Betsy, we were saddened to hear the news. Ted was our friend, as are you, and we regret that we lost touch when you moved to Texas. Ted was a fine and singular fellow whom many will always remember, Claudia and me included.
