It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Barbara Sobkowiak (Kramer), cherished mother, devoted wife, and beloved teacher, who lost her 14-year battle with Parkinson's on August 4th, 2024, at the age of 77.
Born on October 24th, 1946, in Evergreen Park, IL, daughter of Ray Kramer and Lucille (Peterman) and beloved sister to Mary Jane and Elaine (Delves). Susan was a beacon of warmth and wisdom to all she met and cared about. Q was the devoted wife of David Sobkowiak for 55 loving years full of Chicago sports, Adirondack chairs, and the refraining mantra: Carpe Diem. Daver preceded her in death this year on February 22nd, they are now able to celebrate their 56th anniversary, August 10, in heaven together.
Upon graduating from Northern Illinois University in 1968, Susan dedicated her professional life to nurturing young minds and inspiring students through her passion for learning. Her impact on students and dedication to education were evident in the countless lives she touched, and the fond memories shared by those who grew in her classroom.
Susie Sunshine is remembered for her exemplary kindness, her unwavering support, and her high spirit by her three children Steven, Scott, and Christina (Darnell). Her home was a reflection of herself, where all shared in her boundless affection. Her family recalls her kitchen table as a hub of puzzles, Qwrikle, Scrabble, egg dying, and apple peeling.
Her love lives on in her children Steve (Krista) Sobkowiak, Scott Sobkowiak and Christina (Gary) Darnell; Grandmother "Zuzu" of David, Caroline and Caitlyn Sobkowiak, James and Josie Sobkowiak and Noah, Annabelle, Matilda Darnell.
A visitation to honor Susan will be held on Saturday, Aug 17th at 9:00 am followed by mass at 10:00 AM both held at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The family invites all who knew and loved her to join them in celebrating her remarkable life. St. Joseph Catholic Church. 4801 Main St, Downers Grove, IL 60515. Interment Private
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, as a testament to the genuine care and compassion she generously gave throughout her life.

Susie was a pledge sister with me and we were roommates in the house for two years. We had so much fun, some mischief, some serious moments, and always the joy of friendship and trust. I remember the moment Dave entered the picture. Their love was infectious! Completely independent of each other, Susie and I purchased the same Marshall Field's wedding dresses. Weren't we surprised! Susie and I never lived too close to each other after college but we always knew exactly where the other was and stayed in contact over the years of marriage, careers, children, even retirement. I am so sad to lose her and Dave, too, but I will always cherish the time we had. Saying a prayer for all of you to be comforted by the wonderful memories I know you have. Susie was a sorority sister of mine at NIU. When I pledged under her I began to get to know her as a beautiful woman and loving friend. There were other sisters that I pledged under who I sort of was scared of, but Susie was so warm and welcoming Every time I did encounter her. I am so saddened by her loss and we will keep you all in our prayers. She always was a strong woman as was your dad a strong man. They had each other and that was a great love for them to be together as long as they did. May God bless you. Hold onto your memories..
