Sharon Kohnen Obituary

Sharon A. Kohnen, nee Klingaman, age 70, a Downers Grove resident since 1964, passed away. Beloved wife of Robert E. Kohnen; loving mother of Michelle (Daniel) Rowin, Susan (Steven) Higdon, and Brett (Jodi) Kohnen; cherished grandmother of Madeline, Emily, Cayden Rowin, Daniella, Mitchell, Avery Higdon, and Bradley Kohnen, fond aunt to several; and dear sister of Bradley Klingaman, of Cromwell, Indiana. Preceded in death by her parent Walton and Alys Klingaman; and her dear sister, Beverly Maggart. She was a long time member and past president of the Downers Grove Junior Women's Club, and member and former president of the Downers Grove Tuesday Golf League. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Downers Grove. Visitation will be on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 3-9 p.m. at Toon Funeral Home, 4920 Main St., Downers Grove, IL 60515. Lying in state Friday, Sept. 4, 9:30 a.m. to time of service, 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Downers Grove, 339 4th Street, Downers Grove, IL. Service and interment Cromwell, Indiana, Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009. Lying in state 9 a.m. to time of service, 10 a.m. Broadway Church. Interment Salem Cemetery, Wilmot, Indiana. Scott and I feel blessed to have met your wife and mother. Sharon did not know it, but she was an inspiration to me in her courageous fight against ALS. Her strength and dignity helped me get through my battle with cancer.
