Rupert A. "Rupe" Malone, age 85, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1972, formerly of Oak Park, IL, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021 at his home. He was born November 1, 1935 in Chicago, IL.
Beloved husband of Mary M. Malone (nee Johnson), whom he married August 10, 1968, loving father of Michael Malone of Rockford, IL and John (Jennifer) Malone of Aurora, IL, adored grandfather of Kevin, Brooke and Brandon Malone; Peter and Paige Malone, devoted son of the late Rupert A., Jr. and Aileen (nee Neumann) Malone, son-in-law of the late Carl and Mildred Johnson, brother-in-law of Peter (the late Lu) Johnson of Winona, MN, Andrew (Diane) Johnson of Chanhassen, MN and Paul (the late Sharon) Johnson of Belle Plaine, MN, fond uncle of Jean (John) Jopling, Lisa Turnbull, Kristi (Jim) Ruelle, the late Carl (Maria) Johnson and the late Grant Johnson, great-uncle and friend of many.
Rupert grew up in Chicago, moved to Oak Park in the 2nd grade and was a 1954 graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School. He received an associate's degree from The University of Illinois at Chicago - Chicago Undergraduate Division (CUD) on Navy Pier. Rupert later earned bachelor and masters degrees from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago and taught from 1969-2000 at Downers Grove South High School, where he coached cross country and track and ran the Doctor Who Fan Club.
Rupert served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960. He was a founding member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Naperville and enjoyed cars, track and field, Chicago Bulls basketball and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 27, 2021, 4:00-7:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill Street, Naperville. Current health guidelines state that no more than 250 individuals at a time may pay their respects to the family, and guests are required to wear masks and follow social distancing procedures.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 28, 10:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Rd., Naperville.
Interment: SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Naperville.

Mary, Mike, John and Jenny:

I am very sorry to hear of Rupe's passing. He was such a sweet man and I will always remember his kindness to me both before and after Grant's passing. I miss seeing all of you over these last few years. Prayers for peace, comfort and strength to you all.
