School year 1962-63: Martin Luthur King said he had a dream; “Silent Spring” was a best seller; American “Advisers” were in Vietnam; “To Kill a Mockingbird”, “Lawrence of Arabia”, “Days of Wine & Roses”, and “Sweet Bird of Youth” were new movies; “Moon River” was the Grammy winner. And Patricia Reilly, Ed Sylvester and I had some of the best moments of my college days driving to a junior college on the south side of Chicago. Patricia was a very pretty girl with a great smile. Ed drove us back and forth every day during that year. I don't recall having any discussions about the demands of school or the weighty issues of the day. We pretty much just laughed non-stop, round-trip every day. We didn't tell one another funny jokes, but we did share a common appreciation of life's absurdities. We went our separate ways after that year. Some time afterward, Mike Keenan, sporting a big smile and one of the best crew cuts in the history of the world, swept Patricia off her feet.

That school year and its memories are almost 50 years old, but that happy time has popped into my head many times and brought a smile to my face. It saddens me to hear that Patricia has died. My sincere condolences to Mike and the Keenan family.
