Mary Owens Obituary

Mary S. Owens
Born: September 17, 1935 in Birmingham, AL
Died: June 14, 2023 in Lombard, IL
Mary S. Owens passed away peacefully at home on June 14, 2023. Mary was born in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Aaron and Sybil (Harllee) Stern, sister to the late Harllee Stafford. Mary met her husband, Jim Owens through her coworker at the Federal Reserve in Birmingham. They married in 1956, and moved to the suburbs of Chicago, where they raised their three children.
Mary was a stay-at-home Mom and volunteered at Ideal School until 1974, when she resumed her career at Edgewood Bank. They lived in Countryside over thirty years, and after her husband's death, she spent ten dream years in St. Pete Beach, Florida. She returned to Lombard in 2009, where she continued as a Democratic judge for all elections well into her eighties.
She is survived by Linda (Steve) Dumas, Jim A. Owens and Susan (Ed) Miller. Her grandchildren, Alex (Andrea) Owens, Nicholas Owens, Kelly Dumas, Eddie Miller and Jimmy Miller, known to them as "Grandma Lovey", a name she treasured.
Her dear first cousin, French Forbes. Sister-in-law to Becky (Joe) Pike and the late Don (Donna) Owens. Dear cousin of the late Jeanie (LeRoy) Schmidt. Fond aunt to Tina Klein, Vickie Goodwin, Joe Pike Jr., Judy Payton, Joni Ayers, Pam Fehling and Godmother to the late Sharon Porebski.
Her positive outlook on life, and a kooky personality that she claims she inherited from her mother made her a fun person to be around! She loved to give nicknames to family and friends and considered herself a wordsmith.
Respect and praise to all the fabulous people at Residential Hospice who were a blessing to her.
