Mary Graber Obituary

Marilyn Ann Graber "GooGoo", passed away on February 20, 2012. She had a sense of determination and zest for life that could not be matched. Despite many obstacles, she fully participated in life and was passionate toward the people and activities she loved. Born and raised in Eitzen, Minnesota (population 98) she embraced all aspects the big City of Chicago had to offer, including attending Elmhurst College. She met and later married Charles Graber and took Elmhurst by storm. Marilyn become involved in many important causes including Elmhurst Women's Club, Elmhurst Hospital Guild, Elmhurst College, Chicago Christian Industrial League and her greatest passion, St. Peter's United Church of Christ. Marilyn was a dedicated mother and GooGoo (grandmother) who rarely missed her children and grandchildren's sporting, religious, or music events and participated on many committees and boards. She was a competitive athletewho did not like to lose. Marilyn especially loved tennis and golf which enabled her to establish many great long term friends at Medinah Country Club, participating in each sport. Marilyn was resilient with her battle against a pulmonary fibrosis disease until she was called by her Lord. She is survived by her four children, Charles (Mary Kay), Jill Susan (Brian) Graves, Ann (Randall) Gunst and Robert. She was embraced by her nine grandchildren, Meghan, Kristin and Katie Graber, Haley, Jack and Will Gunst, Tracy Graves and Henry and Hannah Graber. Also survived by her siblings, Belva Dickman and Leland Fruechte. Long may she live in the hearts of us all. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. and siblings, Violet Rostvold and Roland Fruechte. Visitation at Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 567 S. Spring Rd., Elmhurst from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday. Services 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 25 at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 125 W. Church St., Elmhurst. Interment St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a voluntary donation to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, Elmhurst College, St. Peter's United Church of Christ or a charity of your choice.
