Marion Gould Obituary

Marion V. Gould, age 101, of Tucson, AZ quietly slept away on September 22, 2011. Born on August 28, 1910 to Charles and Elsie Shafer, Marion married George Frederick Gould on December 26, 1935 and spent most of her life in Elmhurst, IL (graduated from York in 1928) and Port Charlotte, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four siblings. Marion is survived by her sons Gary Gould, Tucson, AZ and Robert (Katherine) Gould, Cambridge, WI. She is further survived by grandchildren Jennifer Gould Scott, CA, Jodie (Russ) Youngquist, MN and Adam (Holly) Gould, WI and four great granddaughters, Olivia and Lucy Youngquist and Cameron and Elizabeth Gould. Marion was a true trail blazer as the owner and operator of DuPage Telephone Secretarial Service and a court reporter for DuPage Co., IL in the 1950's and early 1960's. Marion and Fred moved to Port Charlotte, FL in 1965 and she immediately became involved in the present Cultural Center and served as corporate Secretary/Treasurer until her retirement in 2000. She was further involved in the First Silver Haired Legislature in Tallahassee; named Woman of the year in 1968 by the Port Charlotte Business and Professional Women's Club and served as President of the Florida Federation of BPW in 1975-76. In 1968 Marion helped form the Charlotte County Women's Bowling Association and served as Secretary, President and Parliamentarian. In 1990 she was named to the CCWBA Bowling Hall of Fame and received the Rose Kessel Award. Along with her husband, Fred, Marion was among the founders of the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club and was the 1996 recipient of the Commodore's Cup for her years of dedication and service. She was the last surviving founder of CHYC. Friends may call at the Roberson Funeral Home in Port Charlotte, FL on Saturday, October 22 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held there at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to: First Church of Christ, Scientist, 2811 Tamiami Trail-Box L, Port Charlotte, FL 33958. "I am looking forward to the day when I can see you again."
