Loretta Louise Smith (Mizener)
Mrs. Loretta Louise Smith (Mizener), age 94, of Downers Grove, passed away November 2, 2020, in Florida due to complications from the Covid Virus.
She was born October 6, 1926, in Chicago, the daughter of the William and Emma Mizener.
Loretta was the loving wife to her husband of nearly 70 years, Stanley Smith. They are survived by their three children; Karen (Ron) Groebli, Bradley (Mary) Smith, Kenneth (Kathryn) Smith, nine grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. She will be sadly miss by all.
Her parents moved to Lisle when Loretta was 5 years old where she was raised with her brothers Floyd, Larry and Jim and sisters, Carol, Verna and Judi. She was a graduate of Downers Grove High School in 1946. She married Stanley in 1951 living in Berwyn until 1958 when they built a home in Downers Grove, IL where they lived for the rest of their lives.
She liked to cook, was a competitive roller skater in her younger days, loved bridge, dominos, and golf. She worked for the Burlington Railroad, was a nanny, an Avon Lady, and a seamstress. Loretta worked as a demonstrator for the Oster Corporation at the Yorktown Mall for nearly 20 years where she gladly whipped up a dip or two offering samples to every shopper while selling Oster appliances. However, her greatest accomplishment of all was being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her family.
A private burial will take place on July 17, 2021, at Clarendon Hills Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life for friends and family members at the Elgin Country Club, 2575 Weld Rd. Elgin Illinois from 1–5pm. Appetizers and drinks will be served.
