Ken Allar Obituary

Ken Dewitt Allard

Ken Dewitt Allard, age 78; beloved husband of Sharon Allard, nee Swiglo; loving father of Stuart M. Allard and Bridget M. Allard; dear brother of Kay Allard-Rondinelli; fond son- in-law of Eleanor Swiglo.

Ken was a former Marshall Field's employee, where in 1980 he met his future wife Sharon Swiglo and they married in 1982. Ken and Sharon had their son Stuart in 1984 and daughter Bridget in 1988. Prior to marriage to Sharon and the birth of his children, Ken worked for the U.S. Embassy in Manila, Philippines. A political science and history student and graduate of Northwestern University Class of 1959 and Lyons Township High School Class of 1955. He was born in East St. Louis, IL and lived in St. Louis and Kansas City until his parents Sarah and DeWitt Allard moved to LaGrange, IL in 1953. Proud member of the American Legion Post 80 in Downers Grove. Ken has two dogs, Duke the Maltese and Henry the Dachshund.

Doctors diagnosed Ken with brain cancer and performed surgery in June of 2013; it was a slow battle in which he part of his sight and most of his hearing. The chemo-radiation took a toll on him, the caregivers, family, and friend Barbara Tatge did everything they could for him. On December 23rd he was released from Good Samaritan Hospital to Oak Trace in Downers Grove and died in the care of St. Thomas Hospice of Hinsdale.

Thank you to Deacon Al Agurkis of St. Mary of Gostyn Parish for all the help.
