I took telecommunications courses from Dr. LoCicero at IIT. Little that I would know at that time that Dr. LoCicero would help shape my career and life. Apart from his great courses with beautiful formulae and illustrations of telecommunications concepts, he helped me draft an application letter to graduate school. I was accepted and am great full to GOD for utilizing Dr. LoCicero for influencing my career and life. So many fond memories of Dr. LoCicero´s outstanding teaching, professionalism and kindness!!

Sandra and Jennifer,

I was looking for information about Dr. LoCicero for the past several years and today accidentally got this website. I feel I am blessed today.

I came to USA in 1979 as graduate student at IIT EE department. I had visa for one year. I took a class with Dr. J. LoCicero and was not doing well since I was talking too many classes. After the class I had a short discussion with him that why I am not doing well and need to finish the degree in one year before visa expires. He told me to give him few hours to do some work to help me. I was so surprised that he spent all afternoon to talk to all teachers so that I can finish the degree in one year. Next day he talked to me and explained what to do. After hearing that I was so emotional I started crying in his office. I got my degree in August 1980. I took many pictures with him to have a lasting memory of him even when I return to my country. Ironically due to political situation in my country I decided to stay in the USA and got a job and later joined AT&T Bell Laboratories and finished Ph.D. Now I am a director at Bell Labs.

I came from a very poor country with very little opportunity and accomplished a lot. Dr. J. LoCicero is the foundation all of my achievements. I would not be near where I am today without his help. It could very well be the case that I had to return to my home country without a degree. All my life ever since I met him I prayed for him every day. He is one of the greatest human being I ever met. May God keep him in peace and happiness to his family. If there is any foundation in his name please send me e-mail at [email protected].

So sad. Today I ran into a publication in one of the IEEE transactions on a subject very close to what I researched together with Prof. LoCicero when I was doing my Ph.D. at IIT, back in the mid 80's. After reading the article, I wanted just to write a memo to tell him that now, after close to 25 years, someone publishes something we already knew back then. While looking at the IIT site, I could not find his email so I started to dig in the network. Then I found the sad news.
I admired Prof. LoCicero, his love for precision in all mathematical developments, his broad knowledge but most of all, his true mentoring. I'll never forget him. Rest in peace.

Dr. LoCicero was a good professor. I took a couple of courses with him and liked him. I think he was one of the best Professors that IIT had. May God rest his soul in peace.

I am deeply saddened by the passing away of Prof. LoCicero. I had the honor of taking many courses un der Prof. LoCicero when I was an undergraduate at IIT. He was a great instructor, who was able to present information in a clear and precise way to help the students understand concepts well. Outside class, he was always available to the students, whenever they had questions and would make sure that he would clarify all their doubts. He was a great mentor to me and gave me valuable advice on graduate studies and even wrote my letters of recommendation to grad school. I am extremely indebted to Prof. LoCicero for his valuable advice, guidance and mentoring. He taught me the first course I ever took in the field of telecommunications. He taught this course so well that it was the main reason for my choosing to pursue telecommunciations research in graduate school.

May God rest his soul in peace. I would like to pass my condolences to his family. I sadly mourn the loss of a great teacher, mentor and person.

I was searching the internet today for my childhood friends and was shocked and very saddened to read that Joe had passed away. Joe and I went to grade school and high school together in NY. We played sports, worked at his Dad's store, and fixed our cars together. My wife and I had the pleasure of being at his wedding to Sandra. No words can properly describe my sadness but I hope that Joe's entire family, especially Sandra and Jennifer, will always know that he will be remembered by his friend Mike and his family in Orlando. God Bless you Joe and your family. With great sadness, Mike Steiner.

I met with Dr. LoCicero first time in 1993 at IIT. I took one of his courses, then he was in my PhD qualifying exam jury. I always remember him as hardworking and tough professor, on the other hand he was excellent teacher and very nice person. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends at ECE department of IIT. I have just known of Dr LoCicero's passing. I am so sorry. I met Prof LoCicero when I was in IIT as a visiting student. He was my advisor and he conducted my final degree project. I have very good memories of that time working with him. My thoughts are with his family.

Dr. LoCicero was my PhD advisor for many years. He was always patient, supportive and caring. I was an off campus student, so when we met, our meetings would often run late. He had a great eye for small technical details and was someone who would go out of his way for you. He will be sorely missed. My deepest sympathies to his family.

Joe was a dear friend, outstanding colleague, and committed volunteer in the IEEE Communications Society.
(As Society President, he served with distinction as my Parliamentarian.)

We often shared a quiet lunch or dinner together. The conversation often turned to our loving families.

He was charming, cheerful, and stood out as a unique person of exceptional integrity. He will always be in my fondest memories.

My thoughts and prayers are with the LoCicero family. Professor LoCicero was my advisor during my graduate studies at IIT in the late 1980's. His mentoring and advise helped me through a career transition at the time. His leadership will be missed at the IEEE Communications Society. God surely comforts those who mourn. (Mat. 5:4)

As an IIT student in the late 1970's, I recall hearing students talk about Prof. LoCicero, but I never had him for a class. What struck me in such a positive way was when I returned to campus with my teen last year, and he went "above and beyond" to give a group of prospective new students and their families an unscheduled tour of the labs and other facilities. He patiently answered questions, and still conveyed a sense of pride in what he was doing after all these years. He's one of the reasons my son made the decision to attend IIT this fall.

Our deepest condolences for Professor LoCicero's family. Myself and my husband both were students at IIT at the ECE Dept. We had Dr. LoCicero as our professor for one of our introductory courses for Telecommunication class. We liked him so much that we followed him to take further Telecom courses. He was very passionate about his work and his teaching. He inspired students and made us comfortable to ask him questions. Traditional office hours did not describe him. He was always available to explain a problem. He has left a permanent impression on us and we will always remember him. May God bless him and his family now and always.

Professor LoCicero has had a tremendous influence on my life. He was on my doctoral dissertation committee, and was very helpful in reviewing my work. He has also been a constant source of encouragement throughout my graduate studies. He has always inspired me to set high standards of thinking and instilled in me the courage to pursue the most difficult of problems.
I have known him for almost 8 years at IIT. He has inspired several generations of students here.
I would like his family to know that he will always be remembered by us for a lifetime.
