Joseph Bowe Obituary
Dr. Joseph C. Bowe, PhD, age 93, passed away November 4, 2014, surrounded by his family at his home in Downers Grove.
Beloved husband of the late Alice Marie Bowe, nee Gordon; loving father of Mary (Jerry) Buch, Joseph (Lisa Gerontes), Anne (Fred) Wehrli, Alice (Bob) Dodge, John (Susan), and Jim (Sue); cherished grandfather of 27, great-grandfather of 3.
Active parishioner of St. Joseph Parish in Downers Grove, for 61 years. Dr Bowe served his country as a scientist on the Manhattan Project, followed by a distinguished career as a nuclear physicist at Argonne National Laboratory. His love of academia led him to Benedictine University where, through his retirement, he devoted himself to his students. Joseph's life revolved around his faith, family and his tireless efforts to promote the sanctity of life.
Visitation Thursday, November 6, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Friday, November 7, at 9:30 a.m., from Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home, 4343 Main St. (1 blk. S. of Ogden) Downers Grove to St. Joseph Church. Mass at 10:00 a.m. Memorial Visitation Saturday, November 8, from 10:00 a.m. until time of Rosary at 10:30 a.m., at St. Malachy Church, Rantoul, Illinois, with cemetery interment to follow at 11:00 a.m., at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rantoul.

I only knew Joe for a short time but he truly was a very nice gentleman.
I could tell there was very much love and caring by his family.

Please accept my deepest sympathy and prayers at the death of your dear father. May he rest in peace! I first met him when I was a student at IBC. After becoming a monk at St. Procopius Abbey, I got to know your parents quite well through abbey and university events. Also, we shared the "Rantoul" connection since that was where I grew up. I will be visiting Holy Sepulchre Cemetery later this month when I am in Rantoul since my parents are buried there. I will be sure to say some prayers at their grave. "May choirs of angels lead him into paradise". May God be with you all.
