John was my dad. I had him only 30 years. He and I shared a friendship that can never be replaced. I miss the awesome support he gave me through his humor, hugs and crazy advice. I am very thankful that He left us with Matt who has his smile, charm and warm nature.

John engaged me with his quick wit and positive approach to everything. Whenever he visited our dental office with Theresa and Cody it was hard not to notice their affection and close friendship with each other. John would tell a few jokes and would have Norma, my assistant and me cracking up with laughter. We are going to miss John at the FDO.

Just before my brother Matt graduated highschool, my mom felt there was something missing in his life. She called me and asked if I would know how to find his dad. Together we decided to call 1-800-US-Search. Now I don't know if any of you know this, but there are thousands of men with the name John Irwin in the state of California and I called every one of them with no luck. I called my mom and told her that I needed some more information, she gave me his brother Burleigh's name. There is only one Burleigh, I was in luck. I called the number for him and got ahold of someone that knew the family and was able to give me a number to his Aunt in Washington who got me in touch with his sister Linda. It wasn't long after I talked to Linda that I got a call from John. I will never forget that Saturday afternoon sitting in Applebee's with my husband and oldest daughter Kileigh, who was 7 months old at the time. I was so nerveous. He had so many questions about everything. I gave him my mom's phone number and as soon as we hung up, I called my mom. I didn't dial fast enough though, because when she answered, she was already talking to him. When John got something in his head there was no time wasting. ;) That night he drove to Bullhead to see Matt. The next day, we drove up there to meet him. That was the beginning of our life with John. From then on we spent most holidays together and at least one weekend a month. He came to every important event in our lives and became a very big part of our family. He was like a father to us and was grandpa to our girls, who miss him so much everyday. He brought so much laughter and happiness to our lives and he tought us so much about life. We are so thankful to have got to spend that time with John and thankful that he brought our families together. We have so many more people to love now and remind us of him. We had never seen mom so happy as she was with John. He will be missed so much every second of every day. We Love you John.

I met John when he came to work for Caltrans in Dec. 1999. I gave him his new employee orientation and everytime I tried to talk he would tell me a joke. He was so funny and always had a smile on his face no matter what the circumstances were. He would always take the time to say hi and ask how the office staff were doing. He will be missed tremendously by his Caltrans family. Unfortunately, I hadn't met Teresa and Crystal before John left us, but I am glad I know them now. In just talking to them I feel like I've known them for a long time.

What a wonderful joy John was to Theresa. He was a special dad to Cody, who loved him very much. John was the type of person who would want everyone to honor him in his passing, but also pick up their chins and go on with life remembering the good times.

We all love you John.

What we will remember the most about John is his smile and laughter. He taught us when things don't always go right for us, turn it into positive no matter what. We loved him from the first moment we met and hugged him. John, we love you and you will be greatly missed.

As a brother-in-law, wish I could have spent more time with him. The funniest joke I heard from John was the infamous Tooth Paste Joke! You brightened the world around you. Will truly miss you Bro!
