John Herbert Obituary

John M. Herbert, Sr., 67, of Creal Springs passed away at 8:30 AM, Friday, October 2, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Monsignor Thomas Flach officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Military rites will be held at the funeral home by VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. John was born September 28, 1942 in Lemont, Illinois to John J. and Josephine (Bieniak) Herbert. He married LaVonne Angus on May 8, 1965 in Lemont; together they shared 44 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife, LaVonne of Creal Springs; son, John Herbert, Jr. of Golden; son and daughter-in-law, David and Christine Herbert of Marion; granddaughters, Amanda Lynn Herbert and Jessica Darlene Herbert; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Bill Johnson and Jeanette and Jesse Castleton. He was preceded in death by his parents. John was of the Catholic faith. He worked as a Police Officer retiring after 24 years of service. He served his country with the United States Navy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and football. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox fan. To view this obit and sign the register book, visit our website @ bluefuneralhome.com
