John Haine Obituary
John R. Haine, age 91, of Downers Grove, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 30, 2014.
Loving father of Ross (Liz Murtagh) Haine, Cheryl (Mark) Prescott, and Heather (John) Kraus. Former husband of and close friend to Janet Haine. Cherished grandfather of Ross (Stacy) Haine, Holt and Hunter Haine, Andrew and Mariana Kraus, and Robby Prescott. Devoted great-grandfather of Alex Haine.
Preceded in death by his parents, George and Phillis Haine.
John was an Australian Commando in WWII. In 1951, he became an American citizen. In 1991, he was Downers Grove Citizen of the Year. He was past president of the Downers Grove Noon Lions Club. A fund raiser for the American Cancer Society, Good Samaritan Hospital, and Benedictine College. A member of the Downers Grove Chamber of Commerce and The Grove Foundation.
John worked in the travel industry from the mid-1950s-1974, then at the Downers Grove National Bank from 1974-1995. In his retirement, John enjoyed traveling the world, scuba diving, spending time with family and friends, celebrating his children's and his grandchildren's accomplishments, solving crossword puzzles, reading, writing poetry, and drinking a toast to each day's gifts.
Memorial visitation will be Thursday, July 10, 2014, from 3:00 to 9:00pm, at Toon Funeral Home, 4920 Main St., Downers Grove, IL. Internment private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to The Grove Foundation, P.O. Box 1072, Downers Grove, IL 60515.
