John Herman Bieritz passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025, in Hinsdale, Illinois, with family by his side.
John was born on October 26, 1945 in Aurora, Illinois, to Herman W. Bieritz and Evelyn (nee Walker) Bieritz. An only child with many doting aunts and uncles, John spent his first years in Yorkville, Illinois on the Walker family farm before his parents settled in Ottawa, Illinois.
Following in his father's footsteps, John attended the University of Illinois, where he earned degrees in science. John worked as an engineer for many years in the western suburbs and retired in 2023. During his time at U of I, John served in the Army ROTC and then went on to serve in Vietnam.
A runner for many years, John loved exercising and remaining fit. That "runner's high" was all he needed to start his day. Neighbors were accustomed to John jogging past early in the morning, no matter the weather. John had an unwavering devotion to his family and gave without expecting anything in return.
John is survived by his three loving children, Erick (Mica Alaniz) Bieritz of Chicago, Emily (Gage) Bieritz Brownell of Cranston, Rhode Island, and Ehren Bieritz of Willowbrook.
John was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Downers Grove for many years. A service will be held there on Friday, September 26 at 10:30 am. A brief gathering for remembrance will be held immediately afterward. Interment will be private.
