Joan Waltz Obituary

Joan A. Waltz

Born: November 25, 1934

Died: January 17, 2017

Joan A. Waltz, age 82, of Waconia, MN passed peacefully into heaven on January 17, 2017 after her courageous battle with vascular dementia.

She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Colonel and Lillias Bergmann; brother, Kenneth Bergmann; and former husband, Paul Waltz.

Joan was born in Toledo, Ohio on November 25, 1934. In 1976, Joan moved to Indian Head Park where she lived until 2013. She worked at Argonne National Laboratory as an Executive Assistant and writer in their Public Relations Department. She lived in Acacia for 37 very happy years surrounded by wonderful loving friends. Joan was an extraordinary pianist and loved classical music. She served on the Western Springs Symphony Board. She was an avid tennis player and prolific writer, including authoring many books for her 4 grandchildren.

She attended Bowling Green State University for 2 years and then later in life went back to school and graduated from DePaul University in 1995 with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Administrative Public Service. She proudly served as an election judge in Western Springs for many years. In 2013, her family moved her to an assisted living facility in Minneapolis, close to her daughter. She eventually moved into nursing home care there as her health deteriorated.

Joan is survived by her sister, Beverly (Milton) Smith; her loving daughter, Jennifer Olson; and loving son, Jonathan (Kim) Waltz; grandsons, Geoffrey Olson, Alexander Waltz, Andrew Waltz; granddaughter, Katherine Olson; niece, Sharon (John) Fahrbach; and nephew, Mike (Karen) Smith.

The family would like to give a special thanks to her loving caregivers at Good Samaritan in Waconia, MN.

Joan had accepted Jesus Christ as her savior and we take comfort knowing that she is in heaven and free from the earthly bounds of her illness.

A memorial service will take place at a future date in Indian Head Park.
