Jerome Loos Obituary
Jerome Loos passed away on May 18, 2011. He was 90 years old and had been living with dementia at the Geneva Provena Care Center. Before this illness affected his life, Jerry enjoyed yard work, walking, and the quiet company of his family and neighbors. Jerome was born in Greenwood, Wisconsin in 1920. He was the ninth of ten surviving children of Conrad and Elizabeth Loos. He grew up on the family farm in Loyal, Wisconsin and attended St. Anthony's Catholic Grade School. After grade school Jerome worked various jobs, from farm hand to truck driver. He saw a lot of the country behind the wheel, and even later in life enjoyed traveling the country by car on family vacations. At 18 he joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Snelling, Minnesota as part of the Old Guard - The 3rd Infantry. After he finished two years of service, he moved to Chicago. Jerry did factory work and delivered bananas and produce up to Chicago from Florida. When World War II broke out, Jerry re-entered the Army. He was a war veteran and received two Purple Hearts for injuries sustained in Europe. He was a participant in the Battle of The Bulge with the American Infantry. As a Military Police Officer he guarded German prisoners of war at an American supply station in France. Growing up in a German and English speaking household aided him in communicating with the prisoners working in the warehouse. When the war ended, Jerry worked as a construction laborer in Chicago. After gaining experience at various jobsites, he earned his card as a Union Carpenter. Jerry worked on many construction projects around the city, including power plants, hospitals, shopping malls, Sportsman's Park, and the Cracker Jack Factory. Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sisters, and his previous wife, Jean Caputo Loos. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Isabelle Loos; his son, Jerome (Yvonne) Loos; daughters, Cass (Brad) Koenig, Christine (Liam Keigher) Loos, Clover (Carl) Koester and a step daughter, Barbara Alluri. Jerome is also survived by his grandchildren, Lisa (Bill), Aaron (Andrea), Jenni, Austin, Chase, Trey, Tegan, Miranda, Isabelle, John Paul, Rowan, and Katarina; great-grandchildren, Kristin, Sierra, Sydney, Dominic, and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in St. Charles. A memorial Mass will be held there at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 2, 2011.
