In loving memory of a great lady, i wish to light a candle in Jane's honor and on behalf of my mom, Bettie Terry (d.1990), who loved her.

Jane and my mom--Bettie Terry--were beloved college friends and maintained that friendship until my mom's death in 1990. They attended the U of C in the late 40s as a part of a special program when they were just 16 years of age. Jane was a brilliant intellectual and a glamourous figure to me; in fact, I was named after her. My mom, brother and I visited Jane numerous times in her Hyde Park home, and she came to our home in Geneseo IL numerous times as well. I remember her swathe of gray hair, her kindness and her intelligent conversation. She took a special interest in me when I was growing up as the daughter of her dear friend and namesake which I will never forget. I tried reconnecting with her last year, probably around the time of her death and therefore never reached her. I regret not having had the chance to speak to her again after many years, but will always have precious memories of her from my childhood.
She was an exceptional person, as was my mother, and their mutual loyalty was a beautiful example to me of what true friendship can be. I believe Jane had a gift for friendship, another of her outstanding qualities. I was very saddened to learn of her death, but can personally attest to the fact that she contributed much on so many levels in the 90 years of her life. She was a truly fine person.

Very sorry to get the news on Jane's death. She was a friend and colleague for over thirty years in city of Chicago government. She was always a person of integrity and competence. She contributed greatly to good government. And she was a devoted advocate for her Hyde Park community and the University of Chicago.
