Helena Devereaux Obituary

HARVARD-Helena M. Devereaux, 81, of Harvard, died Wed. July 20, 2011 at Mercy Harvard Hospital in Harvard. She was born on Aug. 5, 1929 in Greenpoint, NY to Joseph and Mary (Porcuzek) Michalowicz. She married Richard Devereaux on Oct. 14, 1951 in Greenpoint, NY. Helena loved music. She played the mandolin and used her other creative skills to write and to paint water colors. She also enjoyed reading and knitting and was an avid collector of Hummels. She is survived by her husband, Richard; daughters, Helaine (Stephan) Freyer of Louisville, KY, Janet (John) Gaffney of Harvard; son, Richard J. (Micki) Devereaux of Gainesville, FL; grandchildren, Stephanie (Steven) Morgan of Kentucky, Rosalie and Grace Gaffney of Harvard, Brody and Analisa Devereaux of Gainesville, FL; a sister, Mary Ann (Klaus Peter) Koch of Virginia and their two daughters, Julie Ann and Christina. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Joseph Michalowicz. The visitation will be on Sunday, July 24, from 2-6 pm at Saunders and McFarlin Funeral Home 107 W. Sumner St. Harvard. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church 206 E. Front St., Harvard, on Monday, July 25, at 11:00 am. The Rev. William Collins will officiate.
