Frances Quigley Obituary

Frances B Quigley, 80, beloved wife of the late John C Quigley, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 7, 2008. Born to the late John and Frances Bebbington, Frances was raised in Montclair, New Jersey where she attended Wachung Elementary School and graduated from Montclair High School in 1945. Mrs Quigley was active in the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority while she attended Saint Lawrence University, graduating in 1949 with a B.S. in Biology. After graduation, she went to work for the Rockefeller Foundation in New York, New York. On April 15, 1950 she married John C Quigley. In the early 1950's John went to work for Proctor & Gamble and the family relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio where two of their children were born. In 1958, John and Frances moved to Wheaton, IL where they rounded out and raised their family of six. In addition to her full time job as loving wife and mother, Mrs Quigley was active in the Wheaton Public Schools, St Michael's Church, and especially enjoyed performing all types of production roles for the Wheaton Drama Club. In 1988 Frances and John retired to Fripp Island, South Carolina where Frances focused her considerable talents on helping the poor. She worked tirelessly for the Franciscan Center on Satin Helena Island, staffing the "store" and performing other fund raising activities. She also served as a volunteer and a part time church secretary for St Peter's Catholic Church in Beaufort. Her husband John died in 2001, and in 2005, Frances returned to Cincinnati and continued her charity work by serving as Pantry manager at Valley Interfaith Food and Clothing Center in Cincinnati. She is survived by her six children, Charlie (Siobhan) Quigley, Kathy (Mark) Montague, Suzy (Mark) Bielstein, Barb (Michael) Policastro, Tom (Susan) Quigley, and the Rev. James (Ellen) Quigley; her eleven grandchildren, Patrick, Ciara and Maeve Quigley, Megan and Amy Montague, West Bielstein, Matthew and Kathryn Policastro, Rory and Caelin Quigley, and Morgan Quigley; her brother John Bebbington and his wife Jean; her sister Marquerite Bebbington; as well as several nieces and nephews. A funeral mass was held on July 11, in Cincinnati, Ohio. An interment ceremony and celebration of her life will be held in Beaufort, South Carolina at a later date, so that she can rest in peace with her beloved husband. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her favorite charity: The Franciscan Center of Saint Helena, PO Box 862, St Helena Island, South Carolina, 29920
