Emeline Link Obituary

Emeline R. Link, 96, of Baileys Harbor, WI passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Scandia Village Good Samaritan. She was born on March 27, 1916 in Somerset, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Harry and Elizabeth (Knepper) Ross. After her father's death when Emeline was still a child, her mother ran a tea room and boarding house with the help of Emeline and younger sister, Betsy. After high school, Emeline attended Carnegie Mellon Institute in Pittsburgh, PA where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She taught and ran the kitchen for Somerset Schools a couple years. On August 19, 1941 she married Leonard Eugene Link in Somerset, PA. During their life together, the lived in Stuebenville OH, Evergreen Park IL, and finally Downers Grove IL when Leonard began working at Argonne National Laboratory. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1991. She enjoyed gardening and reading. Emeline was caring of others, concerned about social issues, and very self-sufficient. She was active at her church and also volunteered at various organizations for many years. Some of the organizations included the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois, the Family Service League, United Way, Meals on Wheels (well into her 80's), and The Ridges in Door County, WI. Emeline is survived by her two sons, David (Carrie) Link of Baileys Harbor, WI and Paul (Kate) Link of Brattleboro, VT; one daughter, Nancy (Lee) Elliott of Columbia, MO; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; one sister, Elizabeth Ross; and her son, Robert (1954). Her family wishes to thank Scandia Village for the excellent care Emeline received over the five years she was a resident there. A short memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Scandia Village in Sister Bay, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Emeline's memory to Save the Children Foundation, to Scandia Village, or to The Ridges Sanctuary in Baileys Harbor, WI.
