Elmer Kucera Obituary

Elmer W. Kucera, 85, of Indian Head Park, passed away November 27, 2008 at LaGrange Memorial Hospital. Elmer was born December 10, 1922 in Cicero. He served as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Combat Infantry during WWII. During his time in the Army he earned many honors including 3 Purple Hearts, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, the WWII Expeditionary Medal, the French Expeditionary Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. Elmer worked for Illinois Bell for 30 years. He was a member of VFW Post 2868 of Brookfield and the Robert Coulter American Legion Post of LaGrange. He attended Marmion Academy and was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Visitation was held Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St. Countryside. Mass was held Monday, December 1, 2008 at St. Cletus Catholic Church in LaGrange. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Husband of the late Jeanne; father of Linda (Andy Matusak) Meyer, Frank Kucera; grandfather of William (Tracy) Meyer, Corey and Joshua Kucera; great-grandfather of Ashleigh and Alyssa Meyer; uncle of Alan Liska, Norman Liska, and Dennis Kaus; brother of the late Eleanore Liska. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc. or Marmion Academy. Arrangements by Hallowell & James Funeral Home, (708) 352-6500.

On behalf of the Legionnaires of The Robert E. Coulter.Jr. Post 1941 THE AMERICAN LEGION I offer my deepest sympathy in the loss of your loved one Elmer W. Kucera a loyal Legionnaire and a veteran of the United States Army who fought in World War II and Elmer is considered part of the (Greatest Generation).
I pray Father we entrust our brother to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life; now that he is freedfrom all its cares, Give him happiness and peace forever.
The old order has passed away; welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain , but only peace and joy with Jesus, Your Son, and the holy spirit for ever and ever Amen.
