The West Chicago Historical Society will miss Betty tremendously. She was a friend to board members and contributed to the spirit of West Chicago in countless ways. She exemplified how to preserve history through the stories and memories she passed onto her children.

Mrs. Mertes was a womderful woman, a shining example of grace and poise and patriotism. She was always involved in her community from Girl Scouts to auxilliary member of the American Legion/VFW. Our community is so much better for her having been a part of it. God bless.
