Dorothy Woods Obituary

Dorothy E. Woods, 86, of South Kingstown, RI (Peace Dale), died Monday, October 20, 2008 at South County Hospital. She was the wife of the late Clarence Woods. Born in Glasgow , MO she was a daughter of the late Melvin J. and Willie (Terrell) Vivian. She grew up in LaGrange , IL where she was a 1940 graduate of Lyons Township High and lived in Chicago , IL for many years before moving to Rhode Island in 2000. For twenty years she worked as a keeper of records for the United States Treasury in Chicago . She was a former communicant of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Chicago and attended Peace Dale Congregational Church. While living in Chicago she was a volunteer in the church food pantry. She is survived by her son Leland W. Brown and his wife Frances of Narragansett, RI; her daughter Pamela B. Guyton and her husband Alfred of Chicago; her brother William B. Cropp of Des Moines , IA; her six grandchildren, Nicole M. and Jennifer L. Guyton, Barbara J. Rayment, Francis J. and Alyssa L. Marinaccio and Amy Lee DiStasio and her five great grandchildren, Troy and Allison Rayment, Alexander, Christopher and Phoenix DiStasio. She was the sister of the late Lucille Young. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 10:00 AM in Christ the King Church , 180 Old North Road , Kingston, RI. Calling hours at the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick , RI on Friday from 4:00 8:00 PM. Cremation will be at White Dove Crematory in West Warwick . Dear Leland: So sorry to hear of the passing of your mom. In meeting her she had a vibrant personality just like you. Charlie enjoyed bringing her prescriptions from CVS and noted how personable your mother was.
