Donna McFadden Obituary

Donna McFadden
Born: August 5, 1930 in Kansas City, MO
Died: October 1, 2024 in Homer Glen, IL
Mary Edith Donallene McFadden (Donna), 94, of Woodridge IL, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at her home in Homer Glen, IL. Donna was the eldest and only daughter of the late Donald A. and Edith May Anderson (nee Smeltzer).
A child of the Depression, Donna was born August 5, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1947. After graduation she moved to Oil City, PA where she met and married Walter Joseph (Joe) McFadden on 8/8/1951. They were married for 71 years before his passing in 2022.
Donna became the family financier working alongside Joe to purchase their first home on Park Ave. She became a full time homemaker for many years, giving birth to 5 children and settling multiple homes for her family. Upon the family's move to Woodridge, she joined Western Electric, later Lucent Technologies, where she retired after 18 years. Shortly thereafter, Donna and Joe moved to Winterhaven Fl, enjoying many of the activities their retirement community offered. In 2021 Joe and Donna relocated to Homer Glen, IL to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Donna's first love was her family. She took pride in all of her children and grandchildren cherishing each of them for their own unique personalities, interests and accomplishments. Her unconditional love, tolerance, and common sense gave all of her children the foundation to live their lives happily and securely knowing she would always be there for them and they for her. She had a kind word and smile for all, right up to the day of her passing.
Donna was a skilled and avid bridge player for most of her life. Her other interests were travel, theater, movies, and reading. In her later life she became a revered bingo player as well!
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Donald Allen Jr. and Forest Vernon Leroy, and her eldest son, William Hilton McFadden.
Surviving are daughters, Pamela Avis McFadden, of Indian Wells, CA; Jenifer McFadden Surma, wife of Donald, of Denver, NC; sons, Michael Joseph McFadden, husband of Suzanne, of Warrenville, IL; Lee Alan McFadden, husband of Janice, of South Beloit, IL; three granddaughters Kristine, Jessica, and Donna; 6 grandsons Joseph, James, Patrick, Matthew, Evan, and Michael; and seven great grandchildren Liam, Grayson, Isabel, Eliot, Julia, Jack and Sofia.
There will be an Illinois celebration of life for both Donna and Joe in late spring of 2025. Details to be published at a later date or please contact the family if you wish to attend.
Donna will be laid to rest in Oil City, PA next to Joe and their eldest son Bill.
