Services: Thurs, Feb. 13, 1 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Grace Reformed Church, 420 Columbus, February 13, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. for Donald Lee Rigdon, Sr., 70, of Bakersfield, who passed away to be with the Lord, February 8, 2003, in Bakersfield. Rev. George Horner of Grace Reformed Church will officiate and graveside will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, River Blvd. Donald was born July 17, 1932, in Louisville, Kentucky, and had resided in Kern County since 1944.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; parents, Clay and Helen; and brother, Clay. He is survived by his brother, Carlos Rigdon; four children: Don Rigdon, Jr., wife Bobbie; Kathy Yantis, husband Steve; Jody Scott, husband Buzz; Owen Rigdon, wife Dianne; and eight grandchildren, Macc Rigdon, Darin and Lee Yantis, Sheryce and Marci Scott, Henry, Kaitlin, and Ian Rigdon. All reside in Bakersfield and loved him dearly.
Donald arrived in Kern County at the age of 12. He graduated from Kern County Union High School in 1951. He joined the Navy and served in the Korean War. He married his wife, Shirley, of forty years and was a member of Grace Reformed Church. Donald was active in the Boy Scouts Troop 147 and received the Golden Acorn Award. When not working hard, all his life, to provide for his family, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends.
Pallbearers will be: Don Rigdon, Jr., Owen Rigdon, Buzz Scott, Steve Yantis, Herb Rigdon, Jon McGowan. Honorary Pallbearers: Carlos Rigdon, Jack Russell, Bobby McGowan.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 12, 2003, between 3:00 9:00 p.m. at Greenlawn, River Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Memorial Fund at Grace Reformed Church.
