Christine Kramer Obituary

Christine Kramer

Born: February 22, 1927; in Yokohama, Japan

Died: May 2, 2017; in Wheaton, IL

Christine Kramer was born Umeko Kono in Yokohama, Japan on February 22, 1927. She died on May 2, 2017 at her home in Wheaton, Illinois with family at her side.

She came to the United States in 1949 to marry the love of her life, Charles (Chuck) Kramer. They had met and fallen in love in Yokohama following the end of WW II. After his return to the United States from Japan, it took 2 1/2 years of effort by Chuck and the passage of a bill in the U.S. House of Representatives before Chris was granted permission to enter the United States and marry Chuck. They were married almost 34 years at the time of Chuck's death. Chris then lived for another 34 years without him.

Chris and Chuck raised a family of 3 children in the Detroit, Michigan area. She was not only a loving and dedicated wife and mother; she was essential in the success of Chuck's business endeavors. She also became an avid bridge, tennis and golf player. She started golf to keep her husband company and ended up (much to his delight) being better at it than he was! Following her husband's death, she began spending winters in Florida and had a home in Naples, Florida.

She is survived by and sorely missed by her children, Colleen Kramer, Charles (Sue) Kramer and Stephanie (Greg) Ward; and her grandchildren, Alex, John and Emily Kramer and Brian, Michael and Christine Ward; and two nieces and two nephews.

A memorial mass will be said for Chris at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Wheaton, IL.
