Charles A. Labotka, JR
Charles A. Labotka, JR, 68 of Riverside at rest August 14, 2021 at Hinsdale Hospital, beloved son of the late Dr. Charles A. Labotka and late Katherine, nee Krauss; dearest brother of Theodore (Dana), Richard (Virginia), Margaret Labotka, Mary Anne (Larry) Paradise, David (Alma), Ellen, Thomas (Barbara) Labotka the late Katherine (Richard) Hrdina and late Robert Labotka; dear uncle and great uncle of many.
Mr. Labotka worked in the sales industry and was a journalist for various companies and served on the board at his condominium association for over 30 years where he helped oversee a major window renovation project and created a budget surplus that kept association assessments from needing to be increased for a number of years. He was a standout in cross country and track at Riverside-Brookfield High School and went on to receive a scholarship at Northern Illinois University, where Charles fondly remembered training in the harsh winds of the campus' North 40 section. At R-B, he was part of a two-mile relay team that turned in the nation's fourth-best time during his senior year in 1971. Charles helped set then meet records in impressive fashion in the two-mile relay at the R-B and Naperville Relays, eclipsing the previous meet record bests by 12 and seven seconds. He is a member of the Chicago Tribune's All-Star Track Team, also had one of the state's top times in the 880-yard run that year. During his senior year at Northern Illinois, he had the team's best time in the 1, 000-yard run during the indoor track season. He also was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. Charles maintained a lifelong commitment to physical fitness, belonging to the health club at Loyola and riding his bicycle around the village and along the Bemis Woods Path. He enjoyed socializing with friends, reliving high school and college times. Mr. Labotka was a 1967 graduate of St. Mary School in Riverside, 1971 graduate of R-B, and 1975 graduate of Northern Illinois, where he later earned a master's degree in journalism.
Survivors include four brothers, Theodore, Richard, David, and Thomas; three sisters, Margaret, Mary Anne, and Ellen; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. His parents, Dr. Charles A. and Katherine; and sister, Katherine Hrdina, predeceased Mr. Labotka.
