Alton Torre Obituary

Alton "John" Torre, died Wednesday, April 11th, 2012 at the age of 91. Born at home in Brooklyn, NY on Dec. 26, 1920 to Joseph and Mary (Cavagnaro) Torre. John received his B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma ('43) and a Masters Degree in Engineering Management from Drexel Institute of Technology ('60). He worked for RCA for 30 years, ('44-'74), where he was instrumental in the development of TV picture tubes, with 17 patents to his name, he also developed a picture tube plant in England. He was an employee of Zenith Radio Corp. of Chicago, IL. ('74-'81) where he was made General Manager of the picture tube division; he also worked for North American Phillips of Seneca Falls, NY ('81-'86), where he was President of Phillips, ECG, their TV picture tube subsidiary. Called Alton by his family and "John" by all others, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Beloved husband of the late Marguaret "Rita" nee Galvin, loving father of Lynn Torre, Jane (David) Torre Falk and Anne (James) Torre Bates; dear grandfather of John Kammes, Ryan and Erin Falk, and Alec Grant; loving son of the late Joseph and Mary Torre; fond brother of the late Elmer Torre and the late Emma Borner. A Memorial Visitation was held Saturday, April 14, from 1 to 3pm at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home 430 E. Roosevelt Rd., (1 block E. of Naperville Rd.), Wheaton, IL 60187.
