Sylvia Durkin Obituary

UNIONOVILLE

Sylvia Rose (Stegman) Durkin, known lovingly to her family as Bobbie, 89, of Unionville, CT, passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of January 22, 2026, joining her husband, William Joseph Durkin, in eternal rest. Sylvia was born on January 28th, 1936, in Monte Vista, Colorado to William Stegman and Rose (Higel) Stegman. Sylvia married the love of her life, William Durkin, in 1960. They lived in West Hartford before moving to Unionville, where they lived together for over fifty years, and were married for nearly sixty. Sylvia loved gardening, watching birds, and playing Scrabble. She was a member of St. Mary's choir for many years. The family would like

to extend their sincere gratitude to Sylvia's dear neighbors and beloved friends. You brought her so much joy, especially when you stopped by to visit her beautiful garden or chat on her porch. She loved when the neighborhood dogs came by to visit on their walks as well. Sylvia is survived by her son William Durkin and wife Lisa (Gottsche) Durkin and their children Mitchell Durkin and his wife Rebecka (Mousch) Durkin and their daughter Evelyn Durkin, and Sarah Durkin; her daughter Deborah (Durkin) Pierce and husband John and their children Dillon Pierce and his wife Toni (Visone) Pierce and their children Havana and John Pierce, and Seth Pierce and his partner Lara Hunz; and her son Daniel Durkin and wife Stephanie (Geist) Durkin and their two children Emily and Ethan Durkin, and her sister, Wilma (Stegman) Marquette. She is preceded in death by her parents William Stegman and Rose (Higel) Stegman, her brothers Donald

Stegman and Robert Stegman, and her husband William Joseph Durkin. Friends are welcome to attend the Funeral Liturgy in the Our Lady of Knock/St. Mary's Church at 10:30 a.m., 145 Main St, Unionville, CT; family will be present to greet guests beginning at 10:00 a.m. in lieu of calling hours.
