Colonel Martin Jon Fisher
With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Colonel Martin Jon Fisher on March 24, 2026. Born on August 24, 1947 in the vibrant city of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Martin was a beacon of strength and compassion, whose life was marked by unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his community.
Martin was the beloved son of Paul and Martha Fisher, who predeceased him. He was raised with values of integrity and service, which he carried throughout his life. He is survived by Linda, his cherished wife of 56 years, whose love and companionship were the cornerstones of his life. Together they built a family grounded in love and mutual respect. Martin is also survived by his two sons, Chad of
Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Adam of Wellington, Colorado, along with Adam's wife, Amy. His legacy lives on in his three grandsons, Caleb, Shawn, and Will, with whom he shared countless joyful moments and from whom he derived endless pride and happiness.
Martin's academic journey led him to Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences and a Master of Science in Water Quality Control. His thirst for knowledge and commitment to service continued at Baylor University where he completed a Master of Science in Hospital Administration, preparing him for a distringuished career in the US Army.
Martin dedicated 30 years to the United States Army Medical Service Corps, acheiving the esteemed rank of Colonel. His service from January 1972 to January 2002 was characterized by leadership, integrity and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. A high point of his career was as commander of Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in
Aurora, CO until its closure in June 1999. After retiring from military service, Martin continued to serve by working with the Veterans Administration, where he held the position of Associate Director at the Raymond G. Murphy Veterans Administration Hospital in
Albuquerque, NM from 2004 to 2007. He later contributed his expertise to the New Mexico State Department of Health from 2008 to 2015, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of countless induviduals.
An avid long-distance runner, Martin found joy and peace in the rhythm of marathons, where he demonstrated his perseverance and love for the outdoors. He treasured every moment spent with his sons and gradsons, creating memoiris that will be cherished forever.
A memorial service honoring Martin's life will be held on May 1, 2026 at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the greater Albuquerque Jewish Community Center, reflecting Martin's enduring commitment to community and service.
The Fisher family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Visiting Angels and the compassionate staff at the Veterand Administration Hospice for their dedicated care and support during Martin's final days.
