Frances Andrews Moulton Obituary
Frances Andrews Moulton

Frances Andrews Moulton passed away peacefully at age 90 on December 6, 2018, in Bloomfield, Connecticut. Living in the local area for over 60 years, she became a true New Englander, but never forgot her Midwestern roots.

She was born and raised in Downers Grove, IL, daughter to the late John and Mary Andrews and took every opportunity she could to visit her family and friends there throughout the years. After high school, she started her working career as a secretary for the Superintendent of Public Schools and continued taking college courses for a couple more years. In 1948, she joined Argonne National Laboratory as Confidential Secretary to Dr. Walter H. Zinn, Argonne's first director. This was the beginning of a long, exciting career in the nuclear energy industry. In 1956 she continued her administrative support position for Dr. Zinn as he set up a consulting firm General Nuclear Engineering Corporation in Dunedin, FL. A few years later Combustion Engineering purchased the firm and moved it to Windsor, CT which is how she happily came to live in Connecticut. She retired in 1985 and always said she loved every minute of working in the nuclear world.

Frances and her late husband, Jack C. Moulton, a nuclear engineer, met and married while working at Combustion Engineering and shared 20 wonderful years together. Prior to and during their retirement, she and Jack pursued their love of travel visiting such countries such as Turkey, China, Egypt, Mexico, New Zealand, Albania, and many more. Summers were often spent at the Bloomfield Community garden where they served as Directors for many years. In 1976 Frances helped organize the Valley Ski Touring Club, Inc. nonprofit and held various positions and continued on as Board of Director. She loved the outdoors and especially summers visiting their cottage on Clary Lake in Whitefield, ME. Frances was also a great lover and supporter of all genre of music, but especially enjoyed the local guitar society and all the arts. She was an avid supporter of local museums and charities. She truly loved and lived life to its fullest. Her can-do attitude, staunch advocacy for many causes and loving support was greatly admired. She truly was a wonderful role model for her niece and nephews.

Her love, inspiration, and zest for life impacted many people and she will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her loving sister, Doris M. Urban of Downers Grove; her nephew, John (Carol) Urban of AZ; her niece, Debra (Gary) Buzzell of CA; her nephew Steve (Suzanne) Urban of VA; her step-son, Peter Moulton of WA and his son Jake; her step-daughter, Sarah (Paul) Vautaux of WA, and their daughters Sophia and Melissa; and her 4 Grand-Nieces and Nephews.

A celebration of life will be held in the new year for family and friends with details to be shared later.
