David Krumwiede Obituary

David Stuart Krumwiede

Born: December 18, 1952

Died: March 15, 2020

David Stuart Krumwiede died at his farm on March 15, 2020, 4:35 PM., at age 67.

He was born in Elmhurst, IL on Dec. 18, 1952 to Theodore and Constance (Bauer) Krumwiede, and attended Grand Ave., Laidlaw, and McClure Jr. HS. He then became a graduate of Lyons Township HS, Class of 71, and earned a BS Degree in Education from Northern IL State University. During high school, David participated in youth choir and bell choir at his childhood church, the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange. During college, David signed up for the Marine Reserves, but he was never required to do active duty. After college, he was sponsored to teach science in Australia for two years and upon return to the U.S., taught in the Chicago Public Schools. David went on to fulfill his passion in science, especially geography and geology, by being self-employed in projects such as mapping of the earth and global food banks.

David loved family gatherings, keeping contact with friends, charity and sporting events, and traveling the world. He also had a passion to snow ski or scuba dive. David was extremely intelligent and caring. He is survived by the "love of his life" Gayle Johnson, Patti (Arnold) Belasco, Tom (Kris) Krumwiede, Larry (MaryFrances) Krumwiede, and Chuck (Janice) Krumwiede, five nieces and two nephews. He died on his farm (originally his grandfather's) where he could recharge, relax and be peaceful.

He will be missed.

Not sure what to say?

I met Krum in the early 80's skiing in Aspen Colorado. Me with my NJ buddies and he with his buddies from Chicago. He came to my house for various parties and he was always alive in a big way. We kept in touch by phone for about the last 10 years and were always threatening to get together with Gayle and him some way. Life is too short but no one can say that he did not live all of his. RIP my friend.

The Krumwiede family and our family grew up together and enjoyed Memorial Day picnics, community events, and Christmas Day Open Houses together. We enjoyed seeing Dave and he was interesting to talk with and always welcoming with his big hug and smile. We will miss his enthusiasm but mostly his warm hug and smile!

A common link rings true as I read all these loving memories! Krum was larger than life, with a big personality and even a bigger heart! No words can accurately explain the many years, the many experiences, the wild and wonderful times I shared with David!
He cared deeply for family & friends. He had an amazing intuitive ability to show up for special events!Weddings, funerals! Seemingly when you needed him most and perhaps not, often uninvited, it didn't matter! A mysterious loving soul! He loved children and dogs the most! Oh and of course sending cryptic messages! His legacy will live on ! Rest well dear Krum! Blessings and sincere heart felt condolences to the Krumwiede family.

Big man with that wonderful upper Midwest twang! Met him by way of mutual friends a decade ago. His love of life, totally infectious. We spent time with him and Gayle in Aspen, I walked some of the roaring fork with him scouting trout. He came through Breckenridge a few times in his candy-apple red Chrysler convertible, top down on a cold, sunny, late winter day. He loved our dogs Scout and Warren (named for Warren Zevon, which he loved!) God rest your soul, Big Brudder. You'll not be soon forgotten. Matt and Cindi

I knew the irrepressable :-) Mr. Krumwiede through his long friendship with my husband, Matt. Jolly and kind is how I'll remember him. Enjoyed a visit with he and Gail some years back and our dog was quite spoiled by him♥. What a sweetheart! RIP.

David defined the meaning of "free spirit". A BIG smile, voice & laugh were always central to who he was. I envied his uninhibited passion for having fun. Truly a bigger than life guy who will be missed.
