Kevin Byrd Obituary

Kevin Charles Byrd, 49 of Marion, passed away unexpectedly from a medical condition on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.

Kevin, like many other, struggled through some difficult periods in his life that he had to work hard to overcome. He did that beautifully in the last few years of his life. He found contentment in recovery, a community of support at Heritage Home Care of Austin as well as other McDowell community resources, and much love and support from family. Kevin was a quiet, gentle, and kind soul who was endearing to all who knew and loved him. Kevin enjoyed the small things in life like taking long walks and playing video games with his friends at Heritage Home Care, having regular dinners with his grandmother, aunts and uncles, and he especially enjoyed his cold Mountain Dews and Little Debbie cakes. He will be remembered with love and missed deeply.

Kevin is survived by his daughter Kourtney Byrd and his grandson. He is also survived by his grandmother Melba Y. Taylor, his father Charles E. Byrd, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his mother, Debra T. Ward and grandfather, Roy Lee Taylor, Sr.

Services will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Beams Funeral Service and Crematory located at 2170 Rutherford Road Marion, NC. Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM with the memorial service to follow at 10:30 AM. A private family burial will be held at West Court Baptist Church on a later date.
