Anthony Guptaitis, Jr.|
Anthony Guptaitis, Jr., life-long resident of Glen Ellyn, passed away May 27 at age 65.
He was the beloved husband of Kelly Ann for 37 years; loving father of Adrienne Guptaitis and Anthony "A.J" Guptaitis, III; brother-in-law of Tina Johnson; and devoted companion of golden retriever, Harley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Sr. and Katherine; step-mother, Erna; and sister, Joan (Joseph) Marcelja.
He served in the United States Navy, which included a tour of duty in Vietnam, where he was a helicopter door gunner/crew chief for the Seawolves HA(L)-3 supporting river patrol boats and Navy SEALS. He was inducted into the Combat Aircrew Roll of Honor, and also served as president of the Seawolf Association.
Tony became a commercial insurance producer in 1973 for Spillman & Wotyla Insurance. He earned Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and Certified Workers Compensation Advisor (CWCA) designations. He became Vice President in 1978 and President in 1993. Spillman & Wotyla merged with Esser Hayes Insurance Group in 2010, where he served as Partner until his retirement in 2012.
Guptaitis was a Glen Ellyn Jaycee and served on the B.R. Ryall YMCA board. He served as President of the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce and the Glen Ellyn Rotary. He was a Cub Scout leader, a soccer and baseball coach.
Tony always had a positive outlook on life and viewed every day as a gift. He was an avid reader, loved sports, music, and the outdoors.
A celebration of his life is planned for a future date.
