Michael J. Malec, age 78, of Mason, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at his residence. He was born Tuesday, March 5, 1940 in Geneva, Illinois to Frank and Genevieve (nee Dembrock) Malec.
As a young man, Michael was known as Mickey to most of his family and friends. A natural athlete, he excelled in track as a cross-country runner and in baseball as a pitcher. His love of physical activity continued into adulthood as he enjoyed land sailing, kite flying and going on adventures such as flying a bush plane into remote regions of Alaska.
Serving in the US Marine Corps, his love of his country never faltered as he was active in both the American Legion Post and VFW in Mason. Playing Trivia Games was always an activity Michael looked forward to. His sense of humor usually came out playing the Trivia Games as he selected the name to use. A huge smile would always cross his face at the thought of the winner being "Not You"! Born in Illinois, Michael was a true fan of the Cubs and Bears.
Known for his Handlebar Mustache, Michael won several competitions in the mid-70's. His iconic mustache was no passing fancy.
Michael was preceded in death by: parents, Frank and Genevieve Malec; and a son, David A. Malec.
Michael is survived by children, Michael W. Malec, Steven A. Malec, Emilie C. Malec; grandchildren, Justin Clark, Melissa Malec (Curtis) Morton; Haley Malec, Nathan Malec, Benjamin Malec and Rhonelle Kuitunen; great-grandchildren, Samuel Clark and Michael Clark; brother, Brian (Joan) Malec; niece, Heather Malec; nephew, Christopher Malec; former wife and close friend, Leslie Malec; daughter-in-law, Lorene Wagner; and many other loving family members and friends.
Memorial donations may be directed to: Amercian Legion Post 194, 401 Reading Road, Mason, Ohio 45040.
Funeral Services were Tuesday, November 13, 11:00 AM at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Glen Ellyn, IL, a Graveside Service followed at Forest Hill Cemetery, Glen Ellyn, IL.

Mike was a sweet guy who always had a smile on his face. He loved playing our bowling game at the American Legion and always took top place.
Prayers for Peace for his family. Mike will truly be missed and never forgotten.
