Maxie Marie Graunke nee Smith 87 of Elmhurst IL. Maxie was the daughter of the late Notley Carlton Smith and Marie Ellen (Boling) of Clarence MO. She was preceded in death by her sisters Vivian Clarice Thode (William), Lena Elizabeth Mitts (Clarence) and Dorthy Lee Buckman (Van). Also recently daughter in law Janet A. Graunke (Wade). She is survived by husband Harold W. Graunke, sons Dean W. Graunke (Jan), Rande H. Graunke, Wade C. Graunke and daughter Diane M. Oberle (James). Also 7 grandchildren Wade C Graunke Jr (Ericka), Marie J. Graunke, Aaron Graunke, Daniel Graunke (Jennifer), Brianne M. Graunke, Danielle M. Oberle, and Joshua J. Oberle. Maxie was active in Immanuel Lutheran Church Elmhurst and the paper rollers ministry. She was formerly a pharmacy technician at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. She also taught home economics at Immanuel Lutheran School Elmhurst. Maxie served as a Womans Air Instrument Technician (W.A.I.T) during world WW2. She was on the team that prepared the instruments on the 16 B-25 bombers used in Doolittle's Raid over Tokyo. She recalled flying with and calibrating General Doolittle's plane personally. Visitation is Friday July 22nd at Pedersen-Ryberg Mortuary 435 N. York Rd, Elmhurst IL. I have had the pleasure of hearing alot of wonderful stories from Diane about her mother, father and family. She was a great person who lived a long happy life.
