Janice L. Stokes
Dr. Janice Laverne Matthews Stokes, passed away peacefully on April 7th in the presence of family and dear friends.
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Stokes in 2007.
Survived by her sons, Jason Chochola (Moira) and Craig Chochola (Amanda); grandchildren, Michael, Madalynne, Molly and Connell Chochola.
Janice was born in Broadview, IL and attended Proviso High School, Northwestern University and University of Illinois Medical School. Medical Residency at Rush-Presbyterian- St. Luke's Medical Center and practiced medicine as a pediatrician until her retirement in 2008. Following her successful career in medicine, Janice taught piano at the Burr Ridge park district.
As a child, Janice demonstrated her musical talent early on piano and throughout her adult life she maintained her musical abilities on a daily basis alongside her mentor and friend, the late Joseph Cech. She instilled the same love for the piano in her son Jason at a very young age.
Janice met her first husband, Ronald G. Chochola, while in medical school and married the day after they both graduated in 1965. Divorced in 1997.
In 1998, she chanced a meeting arranged by a mutual friend with Mr. Robert Stokes.She had an immediate affection to Bob and they wed in 2000. Widowed in 2007. In her careers of caring for children, she has touched the lives of many people. Her compassion, delightful sense of humor, and talent will be sorely missed. We will remember her as a loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, friend and neighbor who constantly put the well-being of others before her own. Janice, you led a good life and you will always remain in our thoughts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Susan G. Komen, the American Cancer Society, or the National Wildlife Federation.
